DOn't think Polian will focus on a guy like that. If we're gonna get a LBer early, I would look for Greg Jones, Sean Lee or Darryl Washington.

I like the Lee kid. How's his knee holding up so far? I haven't been keeping up on my college football this year. I've seen a few mock drafts for 2010 that had us taking him in the first round. From what I've seen and read he's a great leader with good skills, and a great person on top of that. Sounds like our kind of guy.

  1. He will be taken too high for us unless we reach for him which is something Polian won't do.
  2. He doesn't fit our system as well as he would a 3-4.
  3. We have greater needs at OT and safety IMO.

you know how much a Pat Willis or Jon Beason would help the D? i'm not saying Spikes is either of those guys, but i wouldnt refrain from taking a beast MLB in the first if the situation presented itself.. even with our other needs.

Personally I wouldn't mind having a bigger emphasis on a larger MLB to anchor the run game, but I think that Polian and the rest of the coaching staff are pretty comfortable with their scheme...I mean, they've only been in the post-season for like 8 years in a row. The added benefit is that these highly prized LB's usually get picked higher by other teams running 3-4s and so we can get cheaper/talented guys that fit our scheme at a discount.

I think as long as we can get a talented "mike" backer, better than Brackett, who came in undrafted, then we will be fine.

I think that our defense is really lacking a stud linebacker...It would help out tremendously.

Let's just get Darryl Washington. He's big and really fast. Should be perfect in both passing and running downs.

Spikes would fit our defense perfectly but he is stupid and has a real attitude problem. Poking players eyes out and kicking balls into the stands last year vs LSU, he is a Gaytor though so its no surprise.

He's a good linebacker, but I think he's a mismatch with the Colts' defense. He can rush the passer pretty well, and seems to come up with some big INTs, so he'll probably make some team very happy.
